On Sunday, the Puntland authority declared that they would be taking strict legal actions against prisoners belonging to the ISIS group. These prisoners were captured during battles that occurred in Al-Miskaad in both this year and last year. Senior officials in Puntland have called for severe punishments, including the death penalty, for members of ISIS. The President of Puntland, Mr. Saed Abdilahi Deni, recently informed the new judiciary of the Armed Forces Court that they would be taking strong actions against individuals with ties to ISIS who were defeated in the Al-Miskaad Mountains. President Deni has ordered that all members of ISIS will face sentences, including the death penalty, which will be carried out by the Puntland Armed Forces Court, according to officers from the Puntland authority. These statements were made while security operations targeting ISIS are currently underway in Al-Miskaad. Puntland security forces have been conducting offensives against extremist groups for the past few months. The Vice President of Puntland, Mr. Ilyas Osman Lugator, has also taken a firm stance on the matter while opening a training for members of the judiciary. He revealed that Puntland has been actively fighting against groups that pose a threat to their security and has called on courts to impose strict penalties on individuals involved in terrorist actions. The Puntland authority has increased their operations against the ISIS group in the Bari region, where their security forces have been engaging in skirmishes with ISIS for the past 15 years and have established bases.
