Ministry of Agriculture Dispatch Spray teams to destroy locust invasion in Somaliland

HARGEISA—Somaliland Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) announced on Thursday it has dispatched spraying teams  to battle a locust invasion that has affected large parts of eastern and western parts of Somaliland.

In a press statement, MoA said the teams were sent to deal with a locust warms that are currently affecting large parts of the country.
MoA further said it has dispatched  8 vehicles on board by spray and surveillance teams to destroy the locust infestation areas.
The teams dispatched to regions affected by the plague of locusts are equipped with spraying bags teemed with pesticides to deal with the threat from the locusts.
The teams are also expected to to help with the efforts to battle the locust invasion which is threatening large areas including farming areas in Somaliland.
In addition to the Somaliland government’s efforts to fight the locust swarm, It has appealed to Ethiopia for lending a helping hand in the fight against the invasion which is also posing a threat to the farming areas in the state.
The ministry of agriculture had mobilized locals to fight the locust invasion threat.
The minister of agriculture, Ahmed Mumin Seed,  has seen off the teams who will be conducting the destruction of the locusts in Somaliland for the coming 21 days.
Experts will also monitor and track the movement of the locusts which originally from the Arabian Peninsula.
