Islington Gardeners are holding their annual general meeting on Tuesday – and an eco-inventor will then give a talk on tackling drought.

The shindig will take place at St James’ Hall, in Preband Street, at 7.15pm. It’s free to attend and open to everyone.

Charlie Paton, managing director of Seawater Greenhouse Limited, will then deliver the “autumn lecture”.

His company are currently trialing a “drought-proof agriculture” programme in Somaliland, which is using solar power and seawater to help grow crops.

Lucy Hodges, of Islington Gardeners, said: “This year we have done something different and looked at gardening as a much bigger global science, hence the speaker. The world has an awful lot of challenges and one of them is food, particularly in areas which are drought stricken. Charlie has come up with an ingenious project that should be really interesting to hear about.”

Winners of a photography competition will also be announced.
