One of the leading giant Telecommunication firm dubbed Hormuud Telecom, has accused Kenya’s Defense Forces that they have demolished one of the most important telecommunication network that was located in Lower Jubba region. The telecommunication company said in a statement that the demolition of one of its centers has disrupted the telecom services as well as the financial one that the Somali citizens rely on. As stated by the firm, the center which located in Dhuuyac-Garoon has been destroyed on January 14, 2026. The center was previously demolished in a deliberate act on January 21, 2019. A statement issued by the firm said that they are sorry to inform their clients and the Somali populace in general that the Kenyan Defense Forces once again destroyed telecommunication equipment belonging to the firm. The statement further added that the incident caused huge service and financial loss. The disruption also impacted between 20, 000 to 30, 000 people living in Dhuuyac Garoon and its environ settlements. The statement added that the local residents in Dhuuyac-Garoon and its environs could not have access to the telecommunication services and financial ones that they receive from the firm. The company reminds that the services were the backbone of the resident’s connectivity, trade and support the daily day life of local residents who are impacted by severe drought and are struggling with hardships. Reports indicate that KDF used landmines to demolish the center. KDF was accused of illegally sneaking into Somalia’s border and the troops were not part of KDF troops that are stationed inside Somalia.
