Torrential rains that pounded Mogadishu overnight resulted the death of ten people and the destruction of properties.

One of the worst affected areas is Ceelqalow village in Wadajir district and other districts.

The rain also brought the collapse of old buildings where civilians lived.

The collapsed old buildings resulted people to die from the same family including an elderly woman and her grandmother.

The torrential rains also affected Internally Displaced People (IDP’s) who lived in makeshift houses made of sticks and plastic sheets. The floods swept away the little food they had.

Local residents in the affected areas say that they are in dire situation and in need and are faced with problems in the aftermath of the floods.

Banadir regional administration is facing allegations while the local residents are requesting to put in place plans to mitigate the disasters that floods leave behind in order to prevent such disasters in the future.

The torrential rains that pounded the capital Mogadishu also disrupted the movement of traffic and roads were closed.

Mogadishu residents say that if the administration does not put in place useful plans to mitigate the disasters that floods leave behind, the risk associated with rains will continue.

It is important that the regional administration and humanitarian agencies must work in order to assist the people affected by floods due to the torrential rain.
