HARGEISA–H.E Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi alias Irro, President of the republic of Somaliland, received on Sunday at the presidential palace, a delegation headed by Turkish Consul General, Hon. Alper Aktas. During the meeting, the two sides discussed issues pertaining to consolidating the bilateral ties between Somaliland and Turkey. Turkish Consul General congratulated the president on his victory of the last presidential elections. Mr. Alper acknowledged the maturity of Somaliland’s democratic system that Somaliland embraced and further noted how transfer of power took place peacefully. He said that such democratic maturity is rare in the African continent. He further stated that the people of Somaliland deserve to be congratulated on this huge achievement as far as the elections are concerned. Issues that high on the agenda include pacification, economic cooperation, trade and investment, education, health and cooperating on humanitarian affairs. President Irro has informed the Turkish Consul General that Somaliland is keen to have direct bilateral relations with Turkey which is common shared interest for both countries.
