Somaliland Parliament Reject A bill to increase Election Commission

Had the lawmakers approved the motion to increase electoral commission, Somaliland could now be significantly closer to holding parliamentary and local council elections.

Somaliland parliament on Saturday turned down the motion which was supposed to see the addition of two more members to the already 7 members of the electoral commission-an independent poll agency in Somaliland.

The agreement was signed by the three parties in Somaliland and was submitted to the house of representatives to approve or reject.

The opposition Wadani party legislator, Mr. Abdikadir Jirde has accused the incumbent Somaliland president that he took control of the house.

The speaker Mr. Bashe Mohamed Farah today announced that he closed the parliament and will go into recess in an attempt to see stoppage of the amendment.
