Intercity mini-buses in the capital Hargeisa on Saturday increase their fares citing a new directive restraining them from booking over 50 percent of their capacity.

The directive was issued by the National Committee on the Prevention of Covid-19 required that 14-sitter mini-buses to only allow 7 passengers in a bid to enforce social distancing regulations in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic in Somaliland.

The passengers travelling with intercity mini-buses were forced to pay 3000 SL Shillings from the normal 2000 SL Shillings.

Mini-bus operator has told that the reason for increasing the fare is that they have been ordered to reduce their capacity by half which is not useful to the bus operators.

Somaliland has so far officially registered 5 Covid-19 cases.
