The ministry of health has sent a rapid response team to support efforts to contain the outbreak of cases of Chikungunya in Lawyo Addo of Selal province.

The medical team is expected to intensify the operations that local doctors have undertaken to prevent the situation to get out of control.

A meeting was held between medical team sent by the ministry and doctors on the ground in Lawyo Addo and discussed ways to conduct survey based on the healthcare needs.

Chikungunya is a mosquito-borne viral disease characterized by an abrupt onset of fever frequently accompanied by joint pain. Other common signs and symptoms include muscle pain, headache, nausea, fatigue and rash. The joint pain is often very debilitating, but usually lasts for a few days or may be prolonged to weeks. The virus can cause acute, subacute or chronic disease.
