The Somaliland Fire and Rescue Service reported rescuing two citizens from the “Dooxa Weyn” (Main Waterway) in Hargeisa—specifically the section near the Imaaraadka neighborhood in the Ahmed Macallin Haaruun district—after the vehicle they were driving, a Probox, was swept away by floodwaters.
The two rescued individuals were 52-year-old Adan Iise Yusuf (the driver) and another citizen aged 60. Firefighters launched an urgent rescue operation, utilizing their skills and equipment to extract the men from the area where the strong currents were flowing.
The team successfully rescued both citizens without them sustaining any injuries. Following the operation, the driver was handed over to the Police Force, who had also played a significant role in the rescue effort.
Additionally, the fire crew secured the Probox vehicle by tethering it to a tree to prevent it from being swept away by the flood, as there was no access route at the location for emergency vehicles to reach it directly. The Fire Department stated that they have been on high alert since rain began falling in the capital, Hargeisa, this afternoon; they have been patrolling various ravines and waterways to mitigate flood-related risks and raise awareness among the public and motorists.
Various Hargeisa Municipality staff joined the Fire Department in this state of readiness to bolster emergency response and public safety efforts during the rainy season.
Finally, the Fire Department issued a stern warning to motorists, urging them not to attempt to cross ravines or waterways with strong currents and to exercise extra caution throughout the rainy season.
