Somalia, Italy Discuss ways to further deepen diplomatic ties

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Int’l Cooperation of Somali Federal Gov’t Abdisalan Abdi Ali yesterday received at his office the Italian Ambassador to Somalia, Pier Mario Dacco Coppi. The two officials discussed to consolidate the diplomatic ties and to broaden the cooperation between the two sides.

During the high level meeting, the two sides showed the importance of the longstanding relationship between Somalia and Italy. The meeting centered on ways to strengthen the working cooperation in the areas of development, security, education and the economy.

Somali Foreign Affairs and Int’l Cooperation Minister, Abdisalan expressed deep thanks and appreciations to the Italian gov’t for the support it provides to Somalia particularly the reconstruction efforts and the stabilization of Somalia.

He also expressed Somalia’s keenness to expand the opportunistic cooperation particularly the development projects in the areas of economy, youth skills, and rebuilding the capacity of gov’t agencies. On his side, Ambassador Pier Mario Dacco Coppi confirmed that Italy will continue to standby Somalia.

He also commended the progress that the Somali gov’t made in reforming the agencies and the security. He also pledged to expedite the cooperation projects between the two countries. The meeting ended with common understanding which was aimed to strengthen the bilateral ties while they agreed to open new avenues to further the cooperation and will continue to hold high level meetings.
