Somali gov’t troops inflicted heavy casualties on Alshabab fighters after the extremist groups launched an unpresented attack against El Ali Ahmed district in Middle Shabelle region.
The gov’t troops supported by local clan militia fighters repulsed Alshabab’s attempts to takeover the town.
According to a press release issued by the Somali National Army Command, said that top Alshabab commanders were killed during the fighting.
The Somali gov’t displayed 10 combat vehicles that were destroyed which belonged to Alshabab fighters. The gov’t troops seized many other armored vehicles.
Mohamed Hassan Ibrahim, SNA Commander of 5th Batallion, said that Alshabab corpses are scattered in the battlefield.
The gov’t said in the statement that it killed 130 alshabab fighters during the fighting that occurred in El Ali Ahmed district.
The Somali gov’t intensified its efforts to eliminate the terrorist groups from its territory.
