Ethiopia’s Army Chief visits Mogadishu

Mogadishu– Somali Federal gov’t and Ethiopia reached a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), that Ethiopian Forces to participate in the new African Union Mission in Somalia.

This historic agreement was reached after Ethiopia’s Chief of General Staff, Mr. Birhanu Jula paid an official working visit to Mogadishu yesterday.

Ethiopia’s top army chief is accompanied by head of National Intelligence and Security Agency.

The Ethiopian delegation met and held high level discussions with Somalia’s Army Chief General Odawaa Yusuf Rage and the Director in charge of National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), Mr. Abdilahi Sanbalooshe.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to enhance security cooperation between the two countries.

The two sides also agreed to expedite the implementation of previous accords in the areas of security and the cooperation of the armed forces.

The two governments acknowledged that Ethiopia must respect the unity and the territorial integrity of Somalia.

The visit embarked by Ethiopia’s top brass security officials coincides at a time when the Somali Federal Gov’t is engaged efforts to reform the presence of Ethiopian peace keeping force in Somalia due to political tensions between the two countries.
