Somali troops conduct operations in Bakool and Lower Shabelle provinces

The state defense minister of Somali Federal Gov’t, Hon. Omar Ali Abdi on Monday gave details of planned operations which targeted Al-Shabab fighters that occurred in Lower Shabelle region. He said that the operation was conducted as planned, and heavy defeat was inflicted upon Al-shabab members who were hiding in the settlements that are under the administration of Sabiid and Anoole.

He also pointed out that the militant group of Al-shabab blew up the main bridge in Bariire which was one of the crucial bridges in Lower Shabelle province. The bridge was destroyed after Al-Shabab militants blew up using a landmine.

He said: “The brave Somali troops backed by AUSSOM soldiers have successfully demolished Al-Shabab hideouts in settlements that are under the authority of Sabiid and Anoole. The Somali troops captured Al-shabab members and we will display to the media. The Somali enemy was involved in dismantling the bridges in recent days. Yesterday the militant group of Al-shabab destroyed a bridge in Bariire using a landmine.”

He revealed that the Somali soldiers backed by AUSSOM troops have confiscated cache of weapons belonging to Al-shabab militants in which the allied troops have driven out from their hideouts in the settlements that fall under the authority of Sabiid and Anoole.

He said: “The ministry of defense commended the brave Somali and AUSSOM troops that conducted the operation dubbed “Silent Storm” which is aimed to liberate the terrorists from the country.”

He also praised the achievements made by the local defense forces known as Ma’awisley pertaining to the ongoing war with Al-Shabab. Reports from Bakool region say that the Somali National Army (SNA) carried out operations for the third day running in a row which are aimed to beef up the security.

The operation took place in Lukugooraw, Xaaway-Heedow, Dabgal, and El-lahelay settlements in Bakool region. The operation was led by the deputy commander of the 9th Battalion, and the 60th Division of the Somali National Army (SNA) lieutenant Elmi Adan Isak. The operation targeted several Al-Shabab positions and hideouts.

The commander told the media that the Somali troops reached remote villages that the militant group of Al-Shabab were hiding. He stated that the militant group of Al-Shabab cannot withstand the pressure from the fighting. He said that they escaped from areas in which they were hiding.

He further added they dismantled their hideouts. He said that the operation is part of the efforts which are aimed to flush out the militant group from the country. The Somali National Army (SNA) and local Ma’awisley forces are preoccupied with the eradication of Al-Shabab militants from Somalia in order to live in peace and security.
