Somali Gov’t says 130 al-shabab fighters killed in a fighting that took place in Lower Shabelle region

Mogadishu– Somali Federal Gov’t said that its troops in conjunction with clan militia fighters successfully managed to repel an attack that al-shabab militant groups launched to districts in Lower Shabelle region. This was disclosed in a press statement that the Somali Federal Gov’t issued, which it clearly stated that the attacks occurred in El Ali Ahmed, Ali Fooldheere, Al Kawsar, and Daarunimca districts in Lower Shabelle region. The Somali Gov’t said that Somali troops killed 130 al-shabab fighters during the fighting. The gov’t further added that its troops captured an assortment of weapons from al-shabab militant groups. The Ministry of Information of Somalia stated that the gov’t troops backed by local clan militia fighters conducted an operation aimed at capturing al shabab soldiers who are hiding in the areas where the fighting occurred. On the other hand, al-shabab militant groups posted on its affiliated website that its soldiers took over El Ali Ahmed district. The gov’t further stated that the group displayed the corpses of gov’t troops killed during the fighting. The statement from the gov’t comes at a time when the Somali Federal Gov’t troops liberated al-shabab militant groups from districts in Lower Shabelle region.
