The Somali Federal Gov’t is planning to make a reshuffle to certain ministers in the cabinet and reports say that the reshuffle will likely shift the ministers of defense and the foreign affairs.
The current Foreign Minister, Ahmed Ma’alin Fiqi will be shifted to the defense ministry.
If the gov’t makes the changes, it will the first time that the two ministers were shifted within a matter of two months.
The longest serving defense minister, Abdikadir Mohamed Nur Jama was changed and shifted to another ministry.
The reason why Jama was replaced from the defense ministry is the fact that a pressure from the U.S. compelled the presidential palace to do so.
Reports further indicate that there is heated debate of who is going to be the next foreign minister after the current FM leaves the post.
The Somali Prime Minister, Hamze Abdi Barre intends to appoint Abdisalan Abdi Alia alias Dhaayo who is the Second Deputy Prime Minister to become the minister of foreign affairs.
The Second deputy Prime Minister will be appointed to Jibril Abdirashid who is the current defense minister.
There are reports saying that the state minister for foreign affairs, who is a close friend of the Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud wants that a person who is a Somali-American to be appointed to the minister of foreign affairs.
Reports state that the Somali-American that Ali Bal’ad is campaigning to become the foreign minister has close links with the democratic party in the United States and will facilitate the Somali Federal Gov’t to get support from the current U.S. administration headed by Donald Trump.
Further reports say that the former NISA director Mahad Salad is poised to be reinstated to the post.
The reshuffle is expected to take place on Thursday if the current Somali gov’t does not change its mind.
