Somali forces kill 22 Al-Shabab fighters in an operation that took place in the Lower Shabelle region.

On Wednesday, the defense ministry of Somalia released an official statement confirming that the Somali National Army had carried out a planned operation targeting Al-Shabab fighters in Lower Shabelle province. The operation, which lasted for 72 hours, took place in the Buulo Abdalle area between Mubarak and Ugunji. According to the press statement, the operation involved face-to-face skirmishes and airstrikes against Al-Shabab fighters. The Somali government forces successfully eliminated 22 Al-Shabab fighters, including a senior leader named Abdirahman Jeer, who is notorious for committing atrocities against civilians. The defense ministry stated that it will continue to increase operations against terrorist groups in order to eradicate the remaining members of Al-Shabab and maintain the country’s security. Additionally, the Somali government expressed gratitude to its allies for their consistent support in security operations and efforts to ensure stability in Somalia.
