Somaliland Representative to Kenya, Hon. Bashe Awil Omar met with Danish envoy to Somalia/Somaliland, Kenya, and the Seychelles HE Matte Knudsen. The meeting was held at Danish embassy in Nairobi, Kenya’s capital.
The two sides held fruitful discussions and the following points were agreed upon:-
- Somaliland will respect to live side by side in peace with its neighbors.
Hon. Bashe, head of Somaliland mission to Kenya has reiterated Somaliland’s stance that it is determined to live in harmony and peace with Somalia. Mr. Bashe, as SL representative has asserted that Somaliland cannot bear with Somalia’s constant meddling into its affairs. Mr. Bashe has apprised of the Danish envoy to Somalia on the visit embarked by Puntland’s leader to Badhan which is a clear violation of its territorial integrity.
Somaliland has shown a maturity in dealing with this aggression but if Puntland continues its violation of its borders then Somaliland will take the right response. Mr. Bashe has briefed the envoy that Somaliland government is in talks with opposition parties to reach a join consensus on holding free and fair election in Somaliland. Her Excellency, Danish ambassador has welcomed the resumption of the long stalled Somaliland/Somalia talks. Mr. Matte Knudsen has promised to play a lion’s share when it comes to the mediation of the dialogue. By the time the new ambassador pays a courtesy call to Somaliland that she has disclosed that she will hold face t face meeting with the president, HE. Musa Bihi Abdi. Mr. Bashe passed regards from Somaliland leader to Her Excellency, Matte Knudsen, Danish envoy to Somalia/Somaliland, Eritrea and Seychelles. The President of Somaliland has expressed thanks to Denmark for the positive contribution to Somaliland Development Fund (SDF). The talks between the two envoys ended with mutual understanding on the aforementioned topics raised during the high level discussions.
