On Sunday, Jubaland Regional President Ahmed Mohamed Islam, also known as Ahmed Madobe, released a directive inviting lawmakers from Jubaland constituencies in the Somali Federal Parliament to attend a high-level consultative meeting in Kismayo on March 2. The official letter from the Jubaland Presidency stated that the meeting will address the current gridlock in Somalia following the collapse of talks between the federal government and the Somali Future Council. Members of Parliament (MPs) from Somalia’s bicameral parliament who represent Jubaland have accepted the invitation and are currently en route to Kismayo for the meeting. Senator Mariam Kaahin expressed her support for President Ahmed Madobe’s decision to hold this consultative meeting with MPs from Jubaland, emphasizing the importance of unity and collaboration in protecting and developing the interests of Jubaland at both the regional and national level. Meanwhile, MPs elected from Puntland constituencies who are not part of the federal government have left Mogadishu for Garowe, where they will hold high-level meetings with Puntland President Saed Abdilahi Deni. Both President Ahmed Madobe and President Saed Abdilahi Deni left Mogadishu days after their talks with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud failed to reach a resolution.
