Hargeisa – Legislative member Hon. Nour Osman Guleed has passed on.
Reports reaching us notes that the late MP died in Dire Dawa in Ethiopia from natural causes.
The demise of the legislature may see Somaliland parliament get its only female representative in the third legislative council.
According to the country’s legislation where there are no by-elections as in other democracies in replacing elected officials, the next reserve person listed in the sponsoring party in the constituency affected usually fills the post automatically, as prescribed in the local constitution.
In this case the incumbent minister of investments may accede to the seat automatically as per the constitution.
The MP was elected from Awdal Region and his replacement may be Hon. Amina Ilmi Farid if she accepts, but if she declines the next member in line in the list will be appointed as a replacement.
