Ethiopia, Russia strengthen cooperation in the area of Navy

Ethiopia and Russia have agreed to boost the ties between the two countries and signed an agreement. The objective behind the agreement is that Russia would offer its expertise to Ethiopia in a bid to develop its navy force. A delegation headed by deputy Chief of Russia’s navy, Admiral Vladimir Aurobiv has arrived in Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital.

Vladimir Aurobiv held high level discussions with Deputy Commander of Ethiopian Navy Commodore Jemal Tufisa. The two sides have signed an agreement which is aimed at strengthening the capacity of Ethiopia’s Navy Force. The agreement paves the way for the two countries to boost the bilateral ties in the areas of navy.

A statement posted on Ethiopia’s state media stated that the agreement will be the basis for developing the operational capacity of Ethiopian Navy Force. The delegation also paid an inspection visit to Ethiopia’s Navy headquarters and the facility for conducting trainings to the Ethiopian Navy force. Ethiopia is among countries in Africa which is landlocked and is building a robust navy force. Ethiopia argues that it has the right to access the sea.  Ethiopia is in talks with Somalia to offer a route to access the sea.
