The Somali National Army (SNA) is currently conducting operations against Al-Shabab members in settlements under the jurisdiction of Mahaas district. According to reports, on Wednesday, the SNA reached the strategic settlement of Sullaye, which links Mahaas, Teedaan, and Waabweyn. These operations were carried out jointly by the Danab Commandos and the 27th Division of the Somali National Army, as reported by the Danab Military Command. The statement released by the Danab Military Command stated that during the operation, two Al-Shabab members were successfully eliminated and an AK-47 was confiscated. The troops also removed landmines from major roads and other important locations to prevent the threat of terrorist groups to the local population and vehicles travelling on the roads. Reports also indicate that the troops are cautiously advancing towards Goobo settlement, located 15 km north of Mahaas township. The local defense forces, known as Ma’awisley, are also participating in the anti-Al-Shabab operations. Goob settlement is located on the road to Guriel town and is expected to be a major battle between the two sides, as Al-Shabab has set up defense positions to protect themselves from Mahaas.
