The President inaugurates the second National Economic Forum conference

He prioritizes nationhood and defence of the nation in his address

 

The President of the Republic of Somaliland H.E. Muse Bihi Abdi, officially opened the second conference of the National Economic Forum which started Saturday in the city of Hargeisa.

The purpose of the conference is to mainly make recommendations that would contribute to the economic challenges in the country, and top economic experts invited.

Similarly with the gracing of the Head of State on the occasion, present at the launching were the members of the cabinet, members of the diplomatic corps accredited to the country, expert economists, and many distinguished guests in the forum to analyse how to improve the country’s economy.

The Head of State H.E. Mus Bihi Abdi praised the conference as a forum for analyzing the country’s economy, and pointed out that it is expected to produce results that will benefit the society.

In his address the President who gave a long speech that touched on diverse national aspects, mainly focused on the need for nationalism and the defense of the nationhood of the Republic of Somaliland.

He said that the country had different enemies that are united in its destruction, but it is a nation with acknowledged international borders by African countries.

He said, “Many enemies who are united in the destruction of Somaliland, have gathered in the country, and the country has been put into a state of war, so today the priority is to unite for the defense of the country, the nation of Somaliland.”

He noted that the essence of the legality of Somaliland’s borders is similar to the rest of the 54 other African countries hence is clearly defined by the African Union Charter.

The President added that Somaliland is a country that has the right to investiture, and has long had a clear path to achieve its long-term goals. “We have been following the law for thirty years,” said President Muse Bihi Abdi.

He warned the Puntland administration that is constantly aggressive in the eastern borders of the nation, and was convictional that its expansion motive in the name of tribalism will come to nought.

The President congratulated the people of Somaliland for the unwavering support of the national forces that are engaged in the defense of the country, and praised the forces for their selflessness in sacrificing their lives for their country and their people.

He said that it is ironic that Kenyan MP politicians of Somali decent would want to fan tribal clashes in Somaliland whereas they are in a country that has over fourty tribes living side by side.

Pointing out that Somaliland has good relations with, he stated that it was inappropriate the country should be attacked from there, especially given that the Kenya has named a fully-fledged ambassadorial representative to Somaliland.

In the end, the he cut off the ribbon of a business expo that is being exhibited at the conference in which the various business fraternity of the country and government agencies presented their services to the community and the various products in the country.

Initially, Barkhad Hassan Abib, who spoke on behalf of the organizing committee of the economic forum conference, explained in depth the things that would be discussed during the conference, and underlined that the recommendations of experts will be included in the expected resolutions. The proposals from the meeting will be officially implemented.

The Minister of Planning and National Development Hon. Ahmed Aden Buhane noted that special importance will be given to issues related to the production of the country.

On his part the Minister of Finance Development, Dr. Saad Ali Shire, said that time will be invested in order to get the benefit of the national product out of the conference, and remove the economic challenges in the country.
