On Friday, the Kenyan government detained Mr. Abdinasir Egge, a Somali diplomat who served as a political adviser to the offices of the Somali President and the Prime Minister. However, the Somali Federal Government has vehemently denied that he held these positions. Mr. Abdinasir, who is 37 years old, had previously announced his candidacy for the presidency in the upcoming 2026 elections. He was detained at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi, upon his arrival from a flight from Australia, with a short stopover in Johannesburg. His arrest is linked to corruption allegations and receiving money through fraud, as confirmed by Kenyan police officers. According to the police, there was a travel alert issued on January 30, 2026, related to a case of deception. In a video he recorded and posted on his Tiktok account, Mr. Abdinasir revealed that the Somali President and Prime Minister are responsible for his detention. He also claimed to have escaped several attempts of arrest and murder. He further disclosed that he had informed the Australian government of his detention in Kenya and appealed for immediate help. After his apprehension, Mr. Abdinasir was immediately investigated at JKIA and later handed over to the officers of the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) for further investigation.
