The National Committee for Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism has added the former President of Southwest State, Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed “Laftagareen,” the former commander of the Custodial Corps, Mahad Abdirahman Adan “Shub,” and eight other individuals to the national financial sanctions list.
The committee’s decision is based on information and evidence it assessed regarding individuals suspected of being members of, having ties to, or collaborating with the Al-Shabaab organization, and who are involved in providing or facilitating financial support used for—or intended for—the financing of terrorism.
The Committee stated that, upon evaluating the submitted information and evidence, it found sufficient legal grounds to include these individuals on the financial sanctions list, in accordance with the Targeted Financial Sanctions Law and its implementing regulations.
The individuals added to the list are:
Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed “Laftagareen”
Hassan Abdulkadir Mohamed
Mahad Abdirahman Adan “Shub”
Ibrahim Adan Ali “Najah”
Hassan Abdi Mohamed “Ugaas Hassan”
Abdullahi Ali Watiin
Abdifatah Mahad Abdirahman
Abdimajid Mowlid Hassan
Amiin Mad Daruur
Abshir Aden Isak
The decision mandates that relevant institutions, Somali citizens, and other individuals or entities within Somalia are prohibited from engaging in financial dealings with the listed individuals.
Furthermore, it requires the freezing of assets belonging to these individuals and stipulates that any related financial activity must be reported to the Financial Reporting Center (FRC).
Finally, the committee warned Somali citizens against engaging in financial dealings or providing financial facilitation to individuals on the list, stating that anyone violating this decision would be prosecuted under the country’s counter-terrorism laws.
