The Government of the Republic of Somaliland today received a $1 million grant from the Government of Taiwan, intended to strengthen, expand, and improve dialysis services provided in Somaliland hospitals.
Taiwan’s Representative to Somaliland, Allen C. Lou, handed over the grant to Somaliland officials. The ceremony was attended by the State Minister for Finance and Economic Development, the Deputy Minister of Health Development, and the Director General of Hargeisa General Hospital.
Taiwan’s support in the health sector is aimed at advancing critical medical services, particularly care for patients suffering from kidney disease. The grant focuses on increasing access to dialysis services and enhancing the quality of care for patients in need.
Following the ceremony, the Taiwanese Representative and his delegation visited the Vice President of Somaliland—who is also the Acting President—Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi, at his office. The Vice President expressed deep gratitude to the Government of Taiwan for the support it provides to Somaliland, particularly regarding cooperation in healthcare, the development of social services, and development projects implemented in the country.
Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi stated that the partnership between Somaliland and Taiwan exemplifies how the two sides can create development opportunities that positively impact the lives of the community.
For his part, Taiwan’s Representative to Somaliland, Allen C. Lou, expressed satisfaction with the bilateral cooperation and affirmed that Taiwan would continue to support Somaliland, specifically in the areas of healthcare, ICT, agriculture, security, social development, and economic infrastructure.
The Representative also stated that Taiwan would further strengthen its support for projects benefiting the people of Somaliland and enhance the cooperation between the two sides.
