At least six Kenyan police officers were killed while four others were wounded after suspected Al-Shabab militant group launched an attack on police barracks.

Kenyan police issued a report on Sunday and said that the attack took place in Garisa district in the East of Kenya, which is located in the border between Kenya and Somalia.

The suspected Al-Shabab fighters carried out the attack early on Sunday morning and attacked police barracks stationed by police reservists.

The suspected Al-Shabab militants used weapons they confiscated when they overrun the barracks.

Although the al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group has not claimed responsibility for carrying out the attack, it is believed that the group previously conducted similar attacks in the border area targeting police stations and public places.

The attack occurred a week after the U.S. embassy in Somalia issued a security alert, sending a stern warning to U.S. citizens not travel to districts in Kenya particularly Garisa which is located in the border between Kenya and Somalia where Al-shabab attacks are rampant.

The al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group of Al-Shabab waged a war against Somalia’s central government and the group wants to establish Sharia rule.
