The current President of Somaliland, H.E Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi, also known as Irro, recently held a high-level meeting with his Israeli counterpart, Isaac Herzog, and Eric Trump, the son of the current US President. The dinner banquet took place on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. This historic meeting between the two leaders marks a new chapter in the diplomatic relations between Israel and Somaliland. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties in areas such as security, defense, technology, agriculture, water, health, energy, and minerals. They also discussed ways to promote peace and stability in the Horn of Africa. The Somaliland President expressed gratitude to the Israeli President for recognizing Somaliland as an independent state on December 25, 2025. He described this as a bold and historic move, long-awaited by the Somaliland people. He emphasized that this recognition was well-deserved after 34 years of striving for independence. Irro assured the Israeli President that Somaliland is a reliable ally and that the Somaliland people never forget those who have shown them kindness. He also highlighted Somaliland’s commitment to peace, democracy, good governance, and the rule of law, which has been maintained for 34 years. This meeting between the Somaliland President, Israeli President, and Eric Trump signifies a new era for Somaliland, as it strives to strengthen its role in promoting peace and security.
