Somaliland Envoy to UK Commemorate 62 Years of Independence

A highly organized celebration was held in London, to commemorate 62 years of Somaliland independence from Great Britain. The independence festival, marked annually on 26th June was graced by Somaliland the diaspora community in the United Kingdom and some members of Somaliland parliament.

During the ceremony to celebrate the 62 anniversary of Somaliland independence speakers at event highted the long struggle to freedom.

Somaliland ambassador to London Ambassador Abdi Abdillahi Hirsi (Dayahweerar) sent congratulatory messages to the organizers, members of Somaliland diaspora community in the United Kingdom and members of parliament from Hargeisa for participating in the celebrations.

Different guests of honor who spoke at the festival reiterated the need of unity in building and unifying the country and its population respectively.

Member of Parliament Hon. Mohamed Hussein Jama (Rambo) urged the British government to be at the forefront of Somaliland independence recognition and that it should not leave it to African countries.

The first deputy chairman of the House of Representatives Hon. Saeed who closed the event thanked the people of Somaliland in the UK for the warm welcome and sent supplications to Almighty Allah for the elders and intellectuals who were instrumental in Somaliland independence.
