The Somali National Army particularly Danab Commandos, an elite special operations force, in conjunction with Jubaland Dervish Forces, carried out anti-terrorism operations in districts under the Lower Jubba region.
During the joint operation, the Somali troops have dismantled Al-Shabab bases in districts in North of Lower Jubba region.
It is reported that Al-Shabab militant group extorted money known as Sakaatul Fitr forcibly from the local residents.
SNA Commanders leading the operation told state-run media that the Somali troops have inflicted heavy casualties on the militant group but they did not tell the number of deaths and injuries.
Districts in Jubaland administration are Al-Shabab’s strongholds.
Military operations and airstrikes targeting the militant group take place in these areas.
The operation which occurred in North of Lower Jubba region is part of the ongoing efforts by the Somali gov’t which is aimed to eliminate the militant group and is underway in most parts of South Somalia.
