The al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group of Al-Shabab cancelled holding military parades this year which coincided on the day Eid-al-Fitr celebrations are held across Al-Shabab’s stronghold areas to showcase their weapons and their military might.

Reports indicate that the reason why the military parades were not held is due to the constant airstrikes and military operations against the militant group.

Senior Al-Shabab leaders in their stronghold districts were not seen in places where residents were performing the Eid-al-Fitr prayers.

Reports from Al-Shabab’s stronghold’s in Galheeri ( Galguduud), Jilib (Middle Jubba), Mubaarak (Lower Shabelle), Ceel-Garas (Galguduud), Buq’aqable (Hiiraan), Jowle (Mudug), and Kuunyo Barow ( Lower Shabelle), indicate that senior Al-Shabab leaders did not show up in Eid-al-Fitr celebrations.

Al-Shabab leaders are reported that they have participated the Eid-al-Fitr celebration by sending recorded voice.

They did not show up places were Eid-al-Fitr prayers were performed.

On other hand, In Middle Shabelle province, where Al-Shabab and the Somali troops are currently engaged in a fighting, the militant group did not issue a statement regarding Eid-al-Fitr celebrations.

It is likely predicted that the airstrikes against the militant group have impacted and weakened its operational capacity and military might.
