Reports from Hiiraan region say that fighting underway in Aboorey settlement enters the fourth day running as Al-Shabab militants are faced with a difficult situation while the fighting is still going on between the two sides.
The Somali troops backed by Ma’awisley forces launched a heavy attack against Al-shabab militants that briefly took control of Aboorey settlement on Sunday which is under the administration of Buuloburde district.
The Somali troops besieged Al-Shabab militants in one of villages of Aboorey settlement. The Somali troops blocked all roads that Al-Shabab militants were getting the reinforcements including Jicibow settlement which locates in the banks of the Shabelle River.
Reports further did not clarify if airstrikes were conducted targeting Al-shabab reinforcements or whether Somali troops bombarded shelling to the reinforcements reaching Al-Shabab militants.
Al-Shabab militants were getting reinforcements using Haud area of Beero –Yabaal settlement. Ma’awisley forces also ambushed reinforcements on their way to Al-Shabab militants stationed in Aboorey settlement.
This has changed the real situation on the ground regarding the ongoing fighting between Somali troops and Al-Shabab fighters. Somali troops backed by Ma’awisley forces are stationed in every direction where Al-Shabab fighters are currently besieged.
Al-Shabab fighters who are currently besieged come under fire from the Somali troops from every direction. Officers of the Somali army say that Al-Shabab fighters are fighting using trenches they dug and they are using a mosque located in Aboorey settlement as shield.
The Somali troops prevent from Al-Shabab militants to flee from the area after troops blocked all roads. The defense ministry spokesman, Abuukar Ma’alin Mohamud said that the troops are currently conducting operations to eliminate the insurgents.
It is not yet clear what the future holds for the Al-Shabab fighters who are besieged and Aboorey has become the wrong place at the wrong time for Al-Shabab militants.
Al-Shabab group sent its fighters to Aboorey settlement so as to cross the neighboring settlement of Yasooman and later take control of road connecting Yasooman, Moqolori and Maxaas district which also connects Dac, Wabxo and Ceelbuur in Galguduud region.
