Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met with the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Frank Garcia, in New York to discuss strengthening the strategic relationship and cooperation between Somalia and the United States.
The meeting, held at the United Nations headquarters, focused on bilateral relations, issues of mutual priority, and shared interests.
The two officials also exchanged views on how to further enhance cooperation between Somalia and the United States across various sectors.
President Hassan Sheikh expressed his gratitude to the U.S. government for the support it provides to Somalia, particularly in the areas of state-building, security, and the development of government institutions.
The President also emphasized the importance of further strengthening the partnership and ties between the two nations.
This meeting was part of a series of engagements President Hassan Sheikh is holding in New York with officials and leaders attending the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Somalia and the United States maintain a close partnership in security and state-building, with Washington supporting efforts to strengthen Somalia’s institutions and security forces.
