The demonstrators emphasized that the Somaliland cause is an issue the public has long championed, pointing to the peace, stability, state institutions, and democratic system that Somaliland has established.
Furthermore, the participants addressed the international community and global institutions—particularly the United Nations—calling on them to heed the views of the Somaliland people and consider their arguments regarding the territory’s political future.
The event took place while world leaders and delegations were in New York for the United Nations General Assembly session, a time when the city was a hub for various diplomatic meetings and activities. The New York rally is part of the activities and meetings Somaliland officials and their supporters are conducting in the United States, coinciding with a visit by President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Irro) and his delegation, who have held various meetings with U.S. officials and members of the Somaliland community.
