The United Nations Secretary-General met with the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, to discuss the security situation in Somalia and efforts to strengthen support for the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
The meeting focused on the latest developments regarding peace and security in Somalia, as well as how to sustain international support for the AUSSOM mission.
During the meeting, the UN Secretary-General reiterated the United Nations’ commitment to supporting Somalia’s key national priorities, including efforts to bolster peace, security, and stability in the country.
As confirmed by the UN spokesperson, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and the Secretary-General also reviewed the need to enhance support for AUSSOM, which plays a role in supporting Somali forces and the country’s security efforts.
The meeting takes place as Somalia and its international partners are working to strengthen the capacity of the country’s forces and facilitate the gradual transfer of security responsibilities to Somali security institutions.
