The Somali Federal government’s defense ministry has released details of airstrikes carried out by the Somali National Army in coordination with international partners. These airstrikes targeted Al-Shabab members in areas of Hiiraan, Lower Shabelle, Bay, and Lower Jubba regions. The defense ministry reported that six airstrikes specifically targeted Al-Shabab positions in Tardo, Ugunji, Daynuunay, and Qumbi. According to the defense ministry, these airstrikes were carried out after consistent surveillance and monitoring of Al-Shabab movements. The ministry confirmed that 54 Al-Shabab members were successfully eliminated in the airstrikes, with others sustaining injuries. Additionally, the airstrikes destroyed storage facilities and crucial military equipment belonging to Al-Shabab, significantly weakening their logistics capacity and ability to organize attacks.
