The Somali National Army in close collaboration with the Turkish army, announced Tuesday that it carried out an airstrike in the Godey area in Lower Shabelle region, targeting an area where Al-Shabab members were based. According to a statement released by the Ministry of Defense of Somalia, at least 35 Al-Shabab members were successfully eliminated, while 20 others were injured during the operation. The statement further said that the Somali National Army in close coordination with the Turkish army, conducted an airstrike on Tuesday morning. The airstrike was carried out by Turkish F-16 fighter jets, which specifically took place in the Godey area in Lower Shabelle region, targeting caves, arms storage facilities, and Al-Shabab hideouts, said the statement. According to the statement, a large explosion took place in the targeted area, which is a clear indication that there was a place where weapons, explosions and military equipment were stored. The statement from the defense ministry further disclosed that there were Al-Shabab members who were stationed in the area and were planning to conduct terrorist attacks, with the intention to harm the civilian population. The ministry of defense expresses deep appreciation to the Somali people for the unwavering support they provide in combating extremist groups such Al-Shabab. It went on to say that it will continue the operations, targeting the group.
