Somali Defense Minister Meets with Iraqi counterpart

Somalia’s minister of defense, Hon. Ahmed Ma’alin Fiqi who is in Baqdad held high level talks with his Iraqi counterparty, Thaabit Al-Abasi.

The meeting which took place in the Iraqi ministry of defense saw the attendance of top brass Iraqi military officers. The two sides held discussions which focused on strengthening the bilateral ties in the areas of military and strategic cooperation.

The two sides also discussed to exchange experts in the fight against terrorism. Thaabit Al-Abasi who spoke at the meeting pledged that they will share military experts with Somalia.

He pointed out that the two countries experienced civil wars. Hon. Ahmed Fiqi expressed thanks to the Iraqi gov’t in hosting and accorded a warm reception to the Somali delegation.

He said that Somalia is keen to establish constant cooperation between the two countries. The Somali defense minister is part of the delegation headed by the Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud who is participating the 34th Arab League Summit which kicked off in Baqdad.
