President says Somaliland cannot host refugees from somalia

President Musa Bihi Abdi said on Sunday that SL could not take the burden of refugees from south Somalia following the forceful eviction of thousands of people from the town of Lasanod.

In response to UNOCHA statement saying that more than 7000 people have been forcefully displaced by SL government from the town of Lasanod, Bihi alleged the United Nations of “hypocrisy” and trying to receive funds through its claims.

The people evicted from Lasanod had been living in the town for more than 30 years and the UN had not provided them with needed assistance, he added, in a blistering attack against World body .

He accused Somalia’s government and other regional states of failure to provide security to the communities in areas under their control that has forced many to flee their homes.

Speaking on a vote held in Mogadishu for senators set to represent SL at the Upper House if Somali parliament, Bihi questioned the legitimacy of those chosen by who had covered their faces due to fear of being identified.

He said it is a responsibility of the shoulders of every citizen in Somaliland to fight against attempts to weaken their self-determination.
