Cabinet ministers held a meeting on Thursday to discuss the final preparations of the upcoming parliamentary and local council polls in Somaliland. President Musa Bihi Abdi has presided over the meeting held at the presidential palace together with Vice President, Abdirahman Abdilahi Ismail. President Bihi has said that civil servants are prohibited from the involvement of politics in Somaliland as per the constitution stipulates. He also clarified that Civil servants must remains neutral during elections. The Head of State reiterated that men and women in uniform must not take sides during polls in the country. President Bihi has announced during the meeting by informing the public that the central gov’t remains ready for the elections. President Bihi has administration has successfully accomplished all the election prerequisite citing information shared by the minister of finance. 11000 security forces will be deployed to maintain security in more than 2, 800 polling stations across Somaliland. It was announced at the meeting that all the budget allocated for the completion of parliament & local council polls have been finalized. The government instructed all security agencies to intensify security operations ahead of the election day. Somaliland people are expected to go to the polls on May 31st, 2021 to elect parliamentarians and local councilors. More than one million citizens are eligible to cast votes in Marodi Jeh region which Hargeisa is the administrative city which will have the largest number of votes estimated to be above 4000 votes.
