The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), in coordination with international partners, has carried out a planned security operation in the Lower Shabelle region, targeting centers and members of the militant group Al-Shabab. The operation successfully eliminated nine Al-Shabab fighters and dismantled crucial facilities used in the manufacture of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) – homemade bombs. The first operation took place in the Kuunyo Barrow area, where NISA and its international partners targeted a facility equipped with large engines used for the production of local mines and explosive devices. Six engines were dismantled and six Al-Shabab militants, including their leader Abikar Nur, were successfully eliminated. Nur was responsible for engines and vehicles, while Abdifatah Mohamed Hassan was the group’s Chief Mechanic for manufacturing explosive devices. In addition, a second security operation was conducted by NISA and its international partners in the Tugaarey settlement, located in the Lower Shabelle region. This operation targeted Al-Shabab militants who were hiding in a densely forested area. Three Al-Shabab fighters were successfully eliminated, and the rest of the group was dispersed from their hiding place in the forest, disrupting their organization. These planned security operations are part of ongoing efforts to dismantle the group’s centers and disrupt their terrorist attacks.
