On Wednesday, the local defense forces known as Ma’awisley ambushed a water tanker carrying Al-Shabab members in the nearby Waabweyn settlement. The settlement is located on the highway connecting Beledweyne and Mahaas townships in the Hiiraan region. According to reports, the Al-Shabab members were attempting to bring water to the Camal settlement when the ambush occurred. The Ma’awisley forces launched the raid from the Haud area surrounding the highway, killing all the Al-Shabab members on board the tanker. Hassan Farah Gulied, an officer of the 27th Division of the Somali National Army (SNA), stated that the operation was executed as planned and the Ma’awisley forces have returned to their bases. He also reported that six Al-Shabab members were successfully eliminated in the ambush and three AK47s were seized. Only three of the Al-Shabab members were armed. The Ma’awisley forces have also destroyed the water tanker used by the Al-Shabab members to supply water to their fellow members stationed in the east of the Hiiraan province. This attack comes after Ma’awisley officer Mohamed Osman Warsame, also known as Ganey, announced their plans to increase attacks against Al-Shabab members in the Hiiraan province.
