On Sunday, the Jubaland authority accused the Somali Federal Government of meddling in the affairs of the Federal Member States, which is a violation of the country’s national constitution. In a press release issued by the Jubaland Presidential Palace, it was stated that the constant interference of the Somali Federal Government will not change the Federal Member States. The statement clarified that the Somali Federal Government does not have the authority to unilaterally change or amend the constitution or the structure of the state. The Jubaland authority emphasized that the Somali Federal Government is based on consensus and that no one side has the right to make decisions about the future of the Federal system. They also expressed concern that the actions of the Somali Federal Government pose a threat to the unity of the country and undermine previous agreements. The press release further revealed that the Somali Federal Government is using political and illegal means to weaken regional administrations. The Jubaland authority reaffirmed its commitment to defending the country, protecting the constitution, and upholding the rights of regional administrations. They called on the Somali people to avoid actions that could lead to division and political chaos. The Jubaland authority stressed that the best way to resolve the current political standoff is through dialogue, respect, and adherence to the agreed-upon constitution. They also stated their opposition to any attempts by one group to undermine the federal system. These new allegations by the Jubaland authority come at a critical time, as efforts are underway to hold a national consultative meeting attended by the Somali Future Council and the Somali Federal Government to resolve the election standoff.
