HARGEISA– A high level delegation from UN and IGAD are in Hargeisa on official working visit to Somaliland.
The delegation include deputy UN special envoy to Somalia/Somaliland and IGAD special envoy to Somalia/Somaliland affairs, Mr. Raisedon Zenenge and Mr. Ali Guyo met and held talks with SL’s Head of State, His Excellency Musa Bihi Abdi at the presidential mansion on Monday. The war in Tuke Raq was a high agenda in the talks between the delegation and Somaliland’s president at the presidntial palace.
The delegation urged Somaliland authority to give a high priority pertaining to the security and stability in Tuke Raq were Somaliland armed forces clashed with Puntland militia soldiers which claimed the loss of life and the destruction of property. The foreign affairs minister, Dr. Sa’ad Ali Shire spoke of the issues that were raised during the high level discussions between Somaliland leader, UN and IGAD delegations. Mr. Sa’ad said that both sides reached a common understanding on boosting the cooperation between SL, IGAD and the UN. They have reiterated that both sides should work towards maintaining stability in the region and the delegation also asserted that Somaliland must do all it can to avoid armed clashes with Puntland militia so that the stability in the region should be pay a particular attention.
SL Foreign Minister, Dr. Sa’ad, House of National Assembly Speaker, Hon. Bashe Mohamed Farah and deputy speaker of Upper house of parliament (Guurti), Hon. Saeed Jama Ali were in attendance during talks between president Musa Bihi, UN and IGAD envoys.
The UN and IGAD delegation called on four major points to Somaliland authority in regard to Tuke Raq hostilities. They have called on cessation of hostilities, commitment to dialogue, humanitarian access to IDP’s and releasing of Prisoner of War (POW) on both sides.
