On Monday, the governments of Djibouti and Somalia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the ministries of education of the two countries. The agreement was signed by Mr. Farah Sheikh Abdilkadir and his Djiboutian counterpart, Mr. Nabil Mohamed Ahmed. The following points were agreed upon: 1. Supporting short-term training and research programs 2. Organizing joint meetings and seminars 3. Implementing certificate sharing programs for bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD degrees 4. Facilitating scholarships and recognition of certificates. According to a press statement, this agreement is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation between Djibouti and Somalia in the area of higher education and research. The two countries have also agreed to protect intellectual property resulting from joint research projects, in accordance with national laws and international agreements. Mr. Farah Sheikh Abdilkadir, the Minister of Education of Somalia, stated that this agreement solidifies the historic and brotherly ties between Djibouti and enhances higher education and research in the country. Similarly, Mr. Nabil Mohamed Ahmed, the Djibouti Minister of Higher Education and Research, emphasized that this new cooperation will create numerous opportunities for students and teachers from both countries.
