The African Union Commission Chairperson, Mahmoud Ali Yousuf, on Sunday has arrived Somalia’s capital Mogadishu.
This is the first visit that the AU Chairman paid to Somalia after he received a formal invitation from Somalia’s Federal Gov’t.
The AU delegation headed by the AU chairperson received a warm welcome at Adden Adde Int’l Airport.
The Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia’s Federal Gov’t Mr. Salah Ahmed Jama flanked by government officials and MP’s from both houses greeted the delegation upon arrival at the airport.
The Somali gov’t has tightened the security while additional troops were deployed to maintain the security of the AU delegation.
The AU Chairperson went to Villa Somalia where he is expected to hold high level discussions with senior Somali officials.
The two sides are expected to discuss issues pertaining to the overall security in Somalia and the Horn of Africa in general.
The role AUSSOM plays when it comes to combating extremist groups in Somalia is part of the discussion.
