Al-shabab fires mortar shells at Halane base

On Tuesday, several mortar shells landed parts of Wadajir district in Mogadishu, Somalia’s capital. Some of the shells hit AUSSOM Command at the fortified Halane base which lies in the fence of Adden Adde Airport.

Witnesses who were based At Adden Adde Int’l Airport told the media that they could hear the loud explosion after four mortar shells hit the airport.

Reports say that at least six mortar shells were fired, but it is not quite clear where the other two mortars landed.

Details are sketchy and there are no official reports pertaining to the number of casualties resulted from the mortar shells fired at Halane fortified base.

The militant group of Al-Shabab has claimed the responsibility of carrying out the attack which targeted Halane Base.

Security agencies of the Somali Federal Gov’t and AUSSOM Command have not issued a statement regarding the mortar attack.

Finally, the attack is part of mortar shells that the group fired at Halane base and nearby the Presidential Palace within a matter of a year.
