The spokesman of Somalia’s defense ministry, Mr. Abuukar Mohamed, has revealed that airstrikes were conducted targeting Al-Shabab hideouts in Boos-Hareeri and El-Ba’ad in Middle Shabelle region. The spokesman has further disclosed that Al-Shabab fighters including senior leaders were killed in the operation. He also said that combat vehicles belonging to Al-Shabab militants were destroyed. In another airstrike that occurred in Middle Shabelle region, Mr. Abuukar confirmed that a makeshift bridge constructed recently by the al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group of Al-Shabab was destroyed.
The militant group used the bridge in order to cross to Middle and Lower Shabelle regions. The spokesman held a press conference while stationed in the frontlines in Middle Shabelle region. He also spoke about the recent attack that Al-Shabab militants launched an attack on a military base manned by Somali security forces stationed in Awdheegle district. He said that the security forces carried out operations which were aimed at bolstering the security in the wake of the terrorist attack. He disclosed that Al-Shabab was badly defeated in the raid. He further stated that dead bodies of Al-Shabab fighters were scattered in Awdheegle district.
