Earlier this week, 18 students (7 of them women) from the Faculty of Law at the Puntland State University attended an “Introduction to legal writing skills” workshop. The workshop was conducted by three EUCAP Somalia Legal Advisers as a result of ongoing cooperation between EUCAP’s Field Office in Garowe and the enthusiastic and motivated Dean of the University, Mr. Ahmed Hassan. The Dean is keen on offering his students opportunities to familiarize themselves with different views, legal cultures and experience from international experts with different professional backgrounds.

EUCAP’s Legal Advisers, for their part, see the faculty as an excellent seedbed for future interns to be mentored by EUCAP in their work at the Ministry for Justice and the Attorney General’s Office. Based on this workshop, the future looks bright: it was an interactive learning situation with lots of vivid discussions between the students and moderators.

The students were proud to receive their certificates and they also expressed that they were looking forward to the next session to enhance their law drafting skills. The Dean, Mr. Hassan, said that the results of the workshop were exactly what he hoped for and he is looking forward to the next contribution from EUCAP Somalia.
