Mogadishu – The Somali Future Council has recently released a set of resolutions following its conference, outlining its position on constitutional reforms and the country’s political direction. In its statement, the Council strongly opposes what it describes as unilateral and unlawful amendments to the Provisional Constitution. It calls on the President of the Federal Government of Somalia to refrain from implementing such changes, warning that those responsible will be held accountable. The Council reaffirms that the 2012 Provisional Constitution remains the country’s legitimate legal framework and states that no amendments should be made outside established constitutional procedures. It further demands the immediate organization of elections for the Federal Member States, in accordance with their respective constitutions and the principles of the Federal Constitution. The statement emphasizes the importance of preserving the federal system and the division of powers between the federal government and member states. Additionally, the statement notes that, following the Federal President’s rejection of consensus-based agreements on national elections and with less than two years remaining in the mandate of the Federal Parliament – set to expire on April 14 – the Somali Future Council will convene a national consultative forum on April 10 to safeguard Somalia’s statehood and political stability. Finally, the Council calls upon the Somali public and the international community to urgently support individuals and communities affected by ongoing hardships. The statement concludes with a reaffirmation of the Council’s commitment to protecting constitutional order and national unity.
